1999 New Year's Card

Created November 1998

This postcard blends together two factors that relate to 1999: first, 1999 is the year of the Rabbit, and Japanese New Year's cards usually keep to that theme.

Second, 1999 (specifically July 1999) is when Nostradamus is said to have predicted (depending on your interperetation) that "The Great Demon of Fear" (Kyoufu no Daimaoh) would descend from the skies and wreak havoc upon the world. In Japan, for one reason or another, that particular prophesy is kinda popular...

I figured that was a pretty neat sentiment for the new year, so...here you are! (: The caption translates roughly to "The Great Demon of Fear Makes Its Appearance"

(That's supposed to be "the sunset of civilization as we know it" by the way, though I think everyone recieving their cards on New Year's morning assumed it was some happy sunrise...)
